Palliative Care

In our effort to do everything within our power to assist in a compassionate continuum of care during an illness, Santé also offers palliative services. Unlike hospice, palliative care helps through all stages of illness, not just end-of-life, and we recommend introducing palliative care early, integrating it into your curative treatment regimen. Working closely with attending physicians, we counsel and inform patients on their options with an emphasis on providing relief from distressing symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite and difficulty sleeping. The result is an improved ability to carry on with daily life, to tolerate medical treatments and a better understanding of their condition and choices for medical care. Santé palliative support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, whether the patient is in one of our transitional rehabilitation facilities, in the hospital or at home, and may include:

  • Expert treatment of pain and symptoms
  • Close communication and compassionate care
  • Help in navigating the healthcare system
  • Guidance with difficult treatment choices
  • Inpatient and outpatient care
  • Home care coordination and referral
  • Detailed practical information and assistance
  • Emotional and spiritual support for you and your family
  • 24-hour availability
